Why is this training necessary?

In 2018 Legislative session wording was added to existing appropriations for school nurses that requires all school nurses to participate in 2 hour training on the emotional and mental health of students.

If an LEA receives State appropriations for school nurses through USBE, ALL school nurses within that LEA must complete all four modules, or funding will be withheld.

Four modules:

1.Trauma Informed Care

2.Alcohol and substance abuse

3.Awareness of, screening for, and triaging to appropriate treatment for mental health problems, signs of mental illness, response to acute mental health crisis, including information about the 24-hour availability of the school safety and crisis line

4.Suicide prevention
