CLINICAL EXPERIENCES REPORTING PROCESS:
Mentee and mentors schedule a time to update the Clinical Experiences form together. Both the mentee (who is tracking their clinical experience hours) and the mentor (who confirms the time was completed) fill in the form together.
Every other month during the academic year, a new/updated mentee CE form is sent to the participant (mentee) via DocHub asking for updates for each CE skill since the last time the form was submitted.
Each skill update section for the MENTEE includes previous submission data including total number of hours to date and the option to submit for each of the sixteen topic areas:
-
-
-
-
- Additional clinical experience hours completed
- Met with your mentor during this reporting cycle?
- Any of the time spent observing in other classrooms during this reporting cycle?
- Any of the time spent observing outside of the grade-level bands (e.g. 7-12) currently teaching during this reporting cycle?
- Any notes about your clinical experiences?
-
-
-
When the participant digitally signs the form, it’s forwarded to the MENTOR who:
-
-
-
-
- Confirms the hours and activities for each topic
- Provides additional comments and feedback
- Was any of the time spent with the mentee in this report done outside of contract time?

CLINICAL EXPERIENCES MENTOR STIPEND PROCESS:
When the mentee and mentor digitally sign and finalize the Clinical Experiences Update form, the APPEL-SpEd team records the data on the mentee’s PLP.
As soon as the threshold minimum of 30 hours has been met for any of the 116 topic areas, the team will cross-reference which of the topic areas have the "outside of contract hours" marked by the mentor.
REMINDER: A total of 540 CE hours (which is more than 30 each) is required for the mentee to meet the CE requirement.
COMPLETION of LICENSURE BY THE PARTICIPANT STIPEND:
During the APPEL-SpEd, the mentor and mentee meet with the APPEL-SpEd team at least twice a year including the initial meeting at the beginning of the APPEL-SpEd program and at the wrap-up meeting just before the mentee is recommended for licensure.
During the wrap-up meeting when the mentee is ready for licensure, the mentor is eligible for an additional $20 for up to four meetings attended outside of contract time with the APPEL-SpEd team for a maximum of $80.
SAMPLE SECTION in the Clinical Experiences Update Form
Every 2 months during the academic year, the APPEL-SpEd team sends an updated Clinical Experiences form or the mentor and mentee to collaboratively fill out.
During the collaborative meeting:
The mentee fills out any red topic area with new clinical hours to report. At the meeting, the mentee goes over the areas with the mentor including adding goals and reflection and then digitally signs and finalizes the red portions of the form which forwards the form to the mentor.
The mentor then fills in any of the relevant purple areas and then signs and finalizes the form.
