Lord of the Rings: Market Segmentation

Have students group together as different types of people from the Lord of the Rings and create a marketing plan for a product and find ways they need to advertise differently because of their differences of:

Demographic Segmentation
Geographic Segmentation
Psychographic Segmentation
Behavioral Segmentation

 

Strand 2: Market Segmentation Assignment

TASK:

Using the team that you selected for your SWOT analysis, you will create 4 separate advertising promotions that is focused towards four different segments of your target market.

PROCESS: 

You must specifically identify whether the segment is based off of Demographics, Psychographics, Geographics, or Behavioral Segmentation.  

You must create the actual promotion and then justify why your promotion will be effective for that segment of the market. 

EXAMPLE:

 If you chose a billboard - you must design the billboard, explain which segment it is for, and then justify in 3-4 sentences why it will be effective for that group of consumers. 

Be creative. If you are stuck consider ads such as billboards, social media, competitions, banners, email, etc.

As a class, we've been asked to visit with, and counsel with the Student Body officers and help them identify needs and opportunities for them to be more effective in working with the Student Body.  What ideas and concepts can we create that will help with distribution of activities and events.  Conduct several SWOT analysis' of the activities as well as the student council members themselves.

Paper football SWOT Analysis- Derek Scoville PGHS

This is an end of unit assignment I use in Sports Marketing, but can be used in Marketing.  This is a cap assignment that helps with Market Segmentation, Logos, slogans, Mascots, and colors.  Then, when the assignment is done, we have an actual paper football tournament.

Assignment: Instruct students to create a profile and picture of a target recruit for a club or sport on campus (e.g., game club, track team, honor society).  This profile or “persona” describes the typical member of the community based on marketing segmentation: demographic, geographic, psychographic, and behavioral.  You can also do this to describe students at rival high schools in the area.
