USDA Overview

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is the federal department responsible for developing and executing federal laws related to farming, agriculture, forestry, and food. It works to promote agricultural trade and production and end hunger, among other things, in the U.S.

A large portion of the USDA's, estimated, $150 billion budget goes to the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) program.

USDA foods typically make up 15 to 20% of a reimbursable meal. This helps add revenue and value to school food programs.
