Procurement Overview Video (2.5 min)
**Important Note: This video was made in 2018, so thresholds have changed. Check your own institution's written procurement policies for current purchase thresholds.**
What is procurement? Procurement is just strategic shopping. Because Child Nutrition Programs use taxpayer dollars, there are rules and regulations that must be followed when buying food, supplies, and equipment for your programs. These regulations will be outlined in this module. Keep in mind that the most restrictive regulations must be applied. If your Local Education Agency has more restrictive guidelines for procurement, those guidelines must be followed. Speak to your local purchasing or business specialists to learn more.
Procurement in the 21st Century
The Child Nutrition Institute has published the resource manual Procurement in the 21st Century Links to an external site.. This manual is extensive, but it is full of valuable procurement information. Child Nutrition Directors and Business Administrators are encouraged to refer to this manual for procurement guidance. When possible, individuals are encouraged to read this manual in its entirety.
Procurement Procedures
SFAs that are new to the National School Lunch Program must submit a written copy of their procurement procedures at the end of this module. This should be a detailed standard operating procedure for all purchases related to child nutrition programs.
