Welcome!

Welcome to this course on student data privacy. This course is meant to keep you current on educational privacy law as well as help you establish and maintain good privacy and security practices in the classroom. As an educator, you have access to a lot of student data and it's your job to make sure it is used appropriately in order to protect the privacy of your students.

Who is this course for?

This course was designed for Utah educators who are renewing their educator license. However, anyone seeking to learn more about student data privacy may take the course, even if you are not an educator seeking relicensure. Note: if you are not completing the course as a part of renewing your educator license, you do not need to sign in on the next page or the last page of the course.

Am I required to take this course?

If you are renewing your Utah educator license you are required to complete this course.

Throughout the course you will be asked multiple times to enter your name, CACTUS number, and email address. You must enter this information each time you are asked in order to have your participation in the course documented.

How do I sign in?

This is an open course so you do not need to sign in to Canvas or enroll in the course to participate. However, to document your participation in the course you will be asked multiple times throughout the course to enter your name, CACTUS number, and/or email address into a form similar to the example shown below. You must enter this information in each form in order to have your participation in the course documented. Note: Make sure to click the purple "Submit" button on each form before moving to the next page of the course.

How do I navigate through the course?

Use the "Next" and "Previous" buttons at the bottom of each page to move through the course. There are 13 pages in the course.

Course Requirements

To successfully complete this course you will need to:

1. Enter your name, CACTUS number, and email address in the form on the next page.
2. Watch all of the videos or read all of the video transcripts on each page of the course.
3. Successfully complete each of the three review sections in the course. You will be asked to re-enter your name for each set of review questions.
4. Confirm that you've completed the course by re-entering your name, CACTUS number, and email address in the form at the end of the course.

Certificate of Completion

When you complete the course you'll have the option to download a certificate of completion. You may download and save the certificate, but you do not need to send it to anyone. The certificate is only meant for your personal records. Your name will not be pre-filled in the certificate.
