    Social Studies, Grade - 5th Grade Standard 3: Students will understand the rights and responsibilities guaranteed in the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights. Objective 1: Assess the underlying principles of the US Constitution as the framework for the United States’ form of government, a compound constitutional republic. a. Recognize ideas from documents used to develop the Constitution (e.g. Magna Carta, Iroquois Confederacy, Articles of Confederation, Virginia Plan).  b. Analyze goals outlined in the Preamble.  c. Distinguish between the role of the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches of the government.  d. Explain the process of passing a law.  e. Describe the concept of checks and balances.  f. Discover the basis for the patriotic and citizenship traditions we have today (i.e. Pledge of Allegiance, flag etiquette, voting).  Social Studies, Grade - 5th Grade Standard 3: Students will understand the rights and responsibilities guaranteed in the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights. Objective 2: Assess how the US Constitution has been amended and interpreted over time, and the impact these amendments have had on the rights and responsibilities of citizens of the United States. a. Explain the significance of the Bill of Rights.  b. Identify how the rights of selected groups have changed and how the Constitution reflects those changes (e.g. women, enslaved people).  c. Analyze the impact of the Constitution on their lives today (e.g. freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, petition). 

  • #DTLUtah 3rd Grade Science Module Ideas

    In the Module 3.SCI.2 Living-Nonliving students will understand that organisms depend on living and nonliving things within their environment. During this module students will classify living organisms and nonliving things (objective 1) and describe the interactions between living organisms and nonliving things in a small environment (objective 2). At the end students will create their own Google Slide to explain the differences between living organisms and nonliving things. In the Module 3.SCI.1 Sun, Moon, and Earth students will understand that the shape of the Earth and the moon are spherical and that Earth rotates on its axis to produce the appearance of the sun and moon moving through the sky. During this module students will describe the appearance of the Earth and the moon (objective 1) and the movement of the Earth and the moon and the apparent movement of other bodies through the sky (objective 2). In the Module 3.SCI.3 Force and Motion students will understand the relationship between the force applied to an object and the resulting motion of the object. During this module students will demonstrate how forces cause changes in speed or direction of objects (objective 1) and demonstrate that the greater the force applied to an object, the greater the change in speed or direction of the object (objective 2).

Objective 1 –Describe the physical characteristics of Utah's wetlands, forests, and deserts Objective 2 –Describe the common plants and animals found in Utah environments and how these organisms have adapted to the environment in which they live. Science 4th Grade Standard 5 –Students will understand the physical characteristics of Utah's wetlands, forests, and deserts and identify common organisms for each environment. Objective 3 –Use a simple scheme to classify Utah plants and animals.
